CCD provides a forum for high school and career/training students in South Florida to learn about career opportunities in the highway and bridge industry, in a hands on learning lab setting. More than 2,400 students from 55 schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Glades and Hendry Counties are expected to attend. Schools preregister to attend one of the two days of the event.
The students will experience 42 learning labs presented by professionals from 78 South Florida transportation industry partners including construction contractors, engineering firms, communication firms, equipment vendors and colleges. QCA will conduct media lab training, and additional hands on labs will cover such diverse subjects as computer-based bridge design, GPS surveying, programming and operating intelligent transportation systems and asphalt mix design. The Career Center labs will focus on resume and job application preparation, job interviewing skills and on-the-job training opportunities. Equipment labs will allow students to operate heavy equipment and power tools that are commonly used on road and bridge projects.
